The Atlas maps companies by what they ARE. This is the second axis: what they are GOING THROUGH. A year of 8-K and 6-K filings plus the most recent earnings call, distilled into an event stream per company, embedded, and clustered — so companies group by shared situation, not shared product.
Step 1
8-Ks (and 6-Ks for foreign filers) are where material events surface: acquisitions, departures, refinancings, guidance resets. The narrative usually hides in the press release exhibit rather than the wrapper — the same lesson the product corpus taught us:
# One year of event filings per company, press releases first
query = 'ticker:X AND formType:("8-K","6-K") AND filedAt:[now-365d TO now]'
for filing in filings:
docs = ex99_exhibits[:2] + primary_doc[:1] # the 99.1 lesson, again
Step 2
The local LLM turns the filing pile into a dated event stream, asks the most recent earnings call what management and analysts are actually focused on, and merges the two — one event, both sources, chronological order:
FILING_PROMPT = ("List every material event the company went through. "
"For each: the date, an event type in a few words, and 2 or 3 sentences "
"of specific detail with names, amounts, and terms. Skip boilerplate.")
TRANSCRIPT_QUESTION = ("What are the top events and situations this company is "
"going through right now, per management and analyst discussion?")
# a third LLM call merges both lists: same event in an 8-K and on the call
# becomes ONE event tagged (filing + call), enriched from both sources
Two real outputs from the pilot, an eventful year and a quiet one:
The company has experienced significant growth and strategic development in 2026, marked by improved financial performance, key acquisitions, and active engagement with investors through multiple conferences and board appointments. Step 3
vector = bge_m3.embed(merged_situational_summary) # 1024 dims
# same stack as the product corpus - but a SEPARATE vector space:
# one company, two coordinates: what it IS vs what is HAPPENING to it
Every pilot company now has two coordinates in two different spaces: its product embedding (what it sells) and its situational embedding (what is happening to it). Similar situations attract regardless of industry — a biotech and a trucking company doing distressed refinancings should land together here while sitting far apart on the product map.

Post run
Everything above embeds each company's whole year into one vector, which blends multi story companies into an average. Because every raw text is stored, the pilot can be regrouped after the fact at EVENT granularity:
# one embedding per EVENT, not per company
events = split(merged_summary) # 963 events across 95 companies
event_cluster = kmeans(embed(events)) # emergent event taxonomy
signature[company] = histogram over event clusters
groups = kmeans(signatures) # silhouette 0.39 vs 0.05 whole summary
The difference is dramatic: signature based groups separate with silhouette 0.39 against 0.05 for the whole summary embedding, and the two groupings substantially disagree (adjusted Rand 0.22) — the signature view finds structure the blended view cannot. A density check agrees the blended space is mostly continuum: HDBSCAN finds only 2 dense clusters there and calls 26.3% of companies noise.

Working with the events
Because every event is stored with its own embedding, ad hoc questions become vector queries. Here, four situations are each defined by a handful of probe phrases; an event joins a category by cosine similarity plus a keyword precision gate, and a company joins a circle by having at least one matching event. No model calls, seconds to run:
# Zero-shot event classification straight from the event vector store:
probes["Refinancing"] = ["debt refinancing", "credit facility amendment", ...]
sims = event_vectors @ embed(probes).T # cosine, no LLM call
member = (sims.max(axis=1) >= 0.45) & keyword_gate(event_text)
circle[cat] = {companies with >= 1 matching event}
Every dot is a company placed in its exact region — hover a dot for ticker and name, click any number to list that region's companies. Dots are colored by stock price change over the window you pick. Snapshot of the first 174 companies processed (1,777 events); it reruns in seconds as the build completes.
The intersections are the interesting part: refinancing plus M&A is the classic special situations screen, product launches plus M&A marks companies buying and building simultaneously, and anyone in all four circles at once is going through maximal corporate turbulence. Each membership traces back to a specific, quotable event line.
Pilot study: 95 randomly sampled companies from the Atlas corpus, one year window, single most recent earnings call. 8-K materiality thresholds vary by company; 6-K coverage for foreign filers is inconsistent; event extraction is a 14B local model reading primary sources and can miss or compress. Scaling to the full corpus is the next step. Not investment advice.
